"This service completes the live theatre experience for me. With audio description the whole experience is more meaningful and the performance becomes more alive."
-Ed. R, client and theatre patron
Our Description for the Blind volunteers are specially trained to provide audio
description of select live theater performances. Theater patrons with vision impairment enjoy description that start with a reading of the Playbill and continue with visual aspects such as the costumes, set and onstage movement.
All of this is done live and it is easy to access. After providing a copy of your I.D. to venue personnel, you will be issued a headset through which you will hear the description during the performance
Each venue has a specific schedule of described performances. We collaborate with the Alley Theatre, Miller Outdoor Theater, AD Players, and the Houston Ballet. In addition, we describe certain performances of the Houston Livestock Show and parade.
